In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the economic system was such that young people were forced to work for low wages, and in poor conditions.
One group of youth, the newsboys in New York City, were upset with the raised prices of the paper. They decided to strike. Their strike was one factor which led up to a change in strengthening unions and new child labor laws.
